It’s dark when Klaus opens his eyes.

He blinks once. Twice. Squeezes his eyes shut and forces them back open, squinting into the darkness for a glimmer of light.

There isn’t one.

“Dad?” he calls. His voice sounds too close, heavy and somehow muted, pressing like cotton in his ears.

He can’t be in the mausoleum. Not again. It’s too dark, and even on moonless nights, Klaus could always make out the shapes around him: the hard edges of elegantly carved tombs, the pitch-black niches in the wall where the urns reflect fragments of pale light.

He’s never given a pillow on those nights—not even one as thin and useless as the one on which his head currently rests.

Something uneasy squirms in his chest, settling heavily in his lungs. “Dad?”

Klaus pushes himself up and his forehead thuds against something hard, knocking him back onto the pillow with a dull throb of pain that rattles through his teeth. He can feel his breath coming faster, puffing back hotly in his face, trapped by the barrier just inches above him.

The stress in your shoulders makes it hard to lift your arm once you finally reach your apartment door. It takes everything in you to shove your key into the lock and slam your hip against the old, swollen wooden door to pop it open, but just crossing the threshold into your sanctuary helps soothe your nerves. Everything falls to the floor within an instant— purse, messenger bag, coat— hell, even your keys. Hopping on one foot to remove a light brown, velvet heel, and then the other as you make your way towards your bedroom, ignoring the lively green house plants scattered around window seals and the living room.

You don’t even bother to turn on the lights. Don’t make a pit stop in the kitchen, or even the bathroom to remove your makeup. Hunger pains be damned. There are exactly two things that will help with this mood— an orgasm, and sleep. Thank God one always leads to the other.

It was 10:12am, just two hours into your work day, when you knew what you were going to need to help forget about this day. Emails piling up, phone ringing off the hook, picking up the slack for coworkers because you’re just so well versed in this… we could really use your help. Took its toll. Richie had stayed because he needed to. He stayed because only an asshole would leave Eddie alone in this state. He stayed because he had to make sure Eddie remained awake.

The staying had been… well. It wasn’t “easy,” obviously. It’s never easy to watch your friend lie against the wall in pain as they cough up blood. But it had been easy to hold Eddie’s hand and sit close by him, so close that their shoulders were touching, because being near Eddie has always been easy.

“You’re gonna be okay, you know,” Richie had said several minutes into the staying.

Eddie had just shrugged. “Yeah, maybe.”

They’d said other things too. Richie had gone off on a tangent about his standup and about how he was terrified to write his own material. Eddie had ranted about the dirt in the cavern and about how unsanitary it was, how his wounds were probably getting infected as they spoke.

As Eddie talked, Richie had been gazing at him with a quiet kind of terror, the sort that made his throat close up.

And then the others returned, and now everyone has a bigger problem than Eddie sitting in dirt - namely, how they are going to carry him outof the dirt.

“Okay, Ben, can- if you- if you get his legs, I’ll get his arms,” says Richie, slipping his hands underneath Eddie’s arms and holding on tight.

Ben grabs Eddie’s ankles. “That works. Lift him on the count of three,” he directs. “One- two-”

But on three, they discover picking up a grown man to carry him out of the sewers is actually a lot harder than it seems. Richie grunts, almost dropping Eddie but catching him just in time. “Fuck.” He slowly sets Eddie down. “New plan?”

“I don’t know if I can carry him out of here myself,” says Ben. “I’ll be able to lift him up, but I need two hands to climb.”

The cavern shakes, making everyone stumble.

“And there’s that.” Bev laughs without humor. “Ben- what if you- if you picked him up like this, and…” She bites her lip, trailing off.

Richie pipes up. “I mean, I’d totally bridal carry him out of here, but it’s like Ben said - there’s a shit ton of climbing, and I need two hands for that.” His hand finds Eddie’s and squeezes it again; Eddie squeezes back.

The floor heaves up and then down. Bill curses, grabbing onto Mike. Richie and Eddie lock eyes.

All at once, Richie realizes what that look means. “No,” he says, his voice breaking. “Eddie. Eddie, it’s gonna be okay, man, we’re taking you out of here.”

Eddie shakes his head and turns to the other Losers. “Guys.”

Everyone looks at him, sadly, desperately. “What is it, Eds?” says Mike.

“Look,” Eddie says. “Just go. Hurry.”

Bill swallows, putting a hand on Eddie’s knee. “H-how are we gonna-”

Staring at him meaningfully, Eddie repeats: “Just go.”

“Eds,” says Bev. “Eddie, we’re not leaving you.”

“Yeah, don’t be fucking stupid.” Richie sniffles, trying to keep his tone light despite how much it’s straining. “You’ve already done enough self-sacrificial bullshit tonight. It’s our turn to help you.”

Eddie’s expression grows even more serious. “No. The cistern is collapsing, and it’s collapsing fast. I’ll only slow you down. We don’t all have to die tonight.”

“Neither do you,” says Richie, every word deliberate.

Eddie looks fond. “Rich, you can be so fucking dense sometimes.” He brings a hand up and cups Richie’s cheek.

“Eddie.” Richie’s stuck frozen. One hand moves to his face and closes around Eddie’s, holding it there. “Eddie, stop, we can still take you out of here, we can still bring you out.”

“Then what?” says Eddie. “You get me to a hospital and I take up space in an emergency room, septic and comatose until they take me off life support? I need you guys to go, now, and leave me here. Please.”

Bev buries her head in her hands, shoulders shaking with sobs. Ben hugs her. “Are you sure?” he asks.

“Yeah,” Eddie whispers, eyelids drooping. “I’m sure. I love you guys.”

“I love you,” Richie grits out, crying. “Eds. I love you. I’m so sorry, I don’t know if- I know now’s not the time, I know you don’t feel the same, I’m not getting my hopes up, I just- I’ve loved you for so long.”

Eddie smiles. “I know.”

The response catches Richie off guard, and he laughs through his tears. “Did you just pull a fucking Han Solo?”

“Mhm,” hums Eddie, coughing raggedly. Blood drips down his chin. “Now go, dumbass. The place is coming down. I don’t want you all to get buried here with me.” He leans forward slightly and kisses Richie on the cheek.

Richie’s jaw drops. “Eds,” he starts. He wipes at his eyes. “Eddie. You better plan on coming back as a ghost to haunt me, alright?”

“Of course.” Eddie closes his eyes. “Now can everyone stop taking their sweet fucking time and leave already before this cave crashes down completely?”

They hug him, one by one. Richie is the last and the longest. “I love you,” he whispers again.

This time, Eddie says “I love you too. Forever,” and kisses him on the lips.

“Wow,” says Richie. “I have to leave after that?” But he’s grinning with all the love in his heart despite everything. “Bye, Eds.”

Bev says goodbye, and Ben and Mike, and Bill. Eddie gives one last smile.

And they leave.

In the years that follow, Richie comes out publicly, Bev and Bill get divorces, and Mike finally leaves Derry. Ben and Bev are happy together; Mike and Bill are happy together.

Richie is happy, but he’s not together.

Bad Bingo Phoenix

He still thinks about Eddie every day. The two of them had taken a picture at dinner that night, and Richie keeps that as his phone background. He starts writing his own material and dressing the way he wants to and standing proud instead of hunched over.

For Eddie, but also for himself.

Every once in a while, he’ll see a smudged figure out of the corner of his eye, or he’ll hear footsteps when he’s alone, or he’ll wake up with the fading sensation of a hand on his forehead. And he finds himself smiling.

“Love you, Eddie,” he’ll say to his empty (?) apartment.

Each time, without fail, he’ll hear a faint whispered “Love you too.”

Reno reached out and pulled his tattered clothing towards him as he groaned, unhealed ribs grating together.

“I don’t think he liked the attention you gave him!” A guard laughed as his mate walked back towards him. “After you untied him and everything!”

A replied of laughter filled the air as Reno slowly dressed glaring at the men. His stubbornness falling back into place as he pulled his shirt over his head.

“You think we broke him?”

“Nah, kids a Turk no way would we break him. Have you heard of their training? Although I reckon, he still thinks he’s going to be rescued,” The Guard who first spoke looked at Reno before cracking a smile.

The other who had used him as a toy turned “Yeah you think you’re still going to be rescued!”

Reno continued to glare from the dirty floor. Eyes narrowing as he imagined killing them slowly and painfully. What fun he would have.

“Surely he know’s the rules. Everyone gets left behind in the Turks. It’s everybody from themselves in that gang!”

Reno had learnt not to reply. There was no use, he wasn’t in a position of power. The guards laughed but were quickly finding him boring. Their laughed died to nothing before one turned back to him, eyeing him up and down. The action sending ice down his spine.

“Of course, if he’s a good dog and continues to do as we say, maybe we’ll let him go…”

A grin from the other “Maybe… now we should heal him before the Dealer finds out what we’ve been doing!”

Reno didn’t flinch away as the Guards walked over Green glowing Materia in hand. Yeah, maybe it was stupid that he still hoped Verdot, Tseng and Rude would come find him. But it was hope he couldn’t let go of.

In 2018, AKBingo! was one of the shows featured on The Ellen Show segment about 'outrageous' Japanese game shows.^[1]

On August 20, 2019, Muramoto announced that the show would end in September after an 11-year run. The last episode aired on September 24, 2019.

In January 2021, it was announced that a revival project for the show, tentatively titled AKBingo Neo, would be launched. The twelve participating members would be picked from the top of the member leaderboards in the mobile card game AKB48 no Dobbon! Hitorijime! (AKB48のどっぼーん！ひとりじめ！), in which players can contribute points to support members of their choice, by the end of the month.^[2] The top three members (Yuiri Murayama, Nana Okada, and Haruna Hashimoto) had each accumulated more than eight billion points by the end of the contest period (each match in the game, which rules are similar to Uno, yields around 3000 points for the winner and a few hundred points for the other three participants).^[3]

The Chinese version is titled SNHello 星萌学院 and consists of the members of SNH48, the former Chinese sister group of AKB48 who have since become independent to AKB48. The show is telecast online every Friday starting from July 4, 2014, but the network sometimes offers some 'sneak peeks', on Thursdays.

Indonesia[edit]

The Indonesian version is titled IClub48 and stars JKT48, AKB48's Indonesian sister group, and host Brandon Nicholas. The show aired twice a weekend on NET, among other Indonesian networks.

Thailand[edit]

The Thai version is titled Victory BNK48 and stars BNK48, the Thai sister group of AKB48. It aired on Workpoint TV. It is the successor to a previous show featuring the group, BNK48 Show, which was broadcast on Channel 3. There is also a documentary series titled BNK48 Senpai.

Philippines[edit]

MNLife and MNLaugh! both appeared on the official YouTube channel of MNL48, AKB48's Filipino sister group. Both shows were hosted by Luke Conde and a special co-host, who was a member of MNL48 and varied from episode to episode. They were later replaced by MNL48 I-SCHOOL, which also appeared on the group's YouTube channel.
